The cameras of the upcoming Galaxy S25 series will be one of the most important aspects of the Korean manufacturer’s flagships. NOW Samsung announced three new camera sensorsand perhaps one of them is the protagonist of the main camera of the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+.
Samsung presented the sensors 200MP ISOCELL HP9, the 50MP ISOCELL JN5 and the 50MP ISOCELL GNJ. The latter is the most important because it could be the main protagonist of the photography of two of the three models of the next Galaxy S25 series.
The Samsung ISOCELL HP9 is the first 200 MP telephoto sensor of the mobile phone industry. And it is already present in one of the most spectacular Android phones presented recently, the vivo X100 Ultra. The HP9 has a 1/1.4-inch sensor size and 0.56-micron pixels, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 200MP main camera.
This sensor is characterized by improve color capture, 12% in light capture and 10% in performance in contrast autofocus. It brings improvements in low light conditions thanks to its pixel binning capabilities by offering 16 in one. In its zoom capabilities, the HP9 offers 2x and 4x zoom used as the main camera and goes up to 12x zoom when used as a 12x telephoto lens.
The ISOCELL JN5 50MP sensor is similar to the JN1, launched by Samsung in 2021, in sensor size with 1/2.76 and 0.64 micron pixels. It features HDR and autofocus improvements with Dual Slope Gain (DCG) technology for HDR autofocus and Super Quad Phase Detection.
It’s a very flexible sensor, since Samsung maintains that it can be used as a main, ultra wide angle, telephoto or front camera. The previous JN1 was used in different ways, its renewal is therefore taking place in the same direction. Other specifications include support for 2x zoom as the main camera and up to 6x when used as a 3x telephoto camera.
The ISOCELL GNJ, the possible for the Galaxy S25
The GNJ has a sensor size of 1/1.57 inch, similar to that used as the main camera of the Galaxy S24 and S24+; the same as in the one micron pixel of the two galaxies mentioned. And if it is one of the firm candidates to occupy the main place of the next S25, it is because Samsung used the same sensor size for the Galaxy S22 and S22+ of 2022.
It was leaked that the S25 and S25+ would keep the same 50 Mpx camera, so there would be no change in the sensor, so the ISOCELL GNJ is positioned as one of the possible ones for the new mobiles. Its characteristics are important and it combines Dual Pixel technology with integrated zoom function on the sensor to generate better captures in video mode and higher resolution images, free of artifacts or the hated moiré pattern.
Samsung explains that it has some important extras such as a Improved anti-reflective coating and better material for pixel isolation. Leads to improved light capture, reduced glare, sharper shadows and dark areas, and better color reproduction. Other of its virtues, according to Android AuthorityThe efficiency gains are a 29% increase in pre-mode and a 34% increase in 4K video at 60 FPS.
