During the shopping weekend that we just left off, one of the products I was asked the most about was the Amazon Fire TV Stick. A dongle that saw the arrival of the Stick 4K Max model and which allows access to 4K UHD resolution in compatible models. A resolution that does not always appear on television and is to force it there is a little trick.
If you have an Amazon Fire TV that can play content in 4K (Fire TV 4K or Fire TV Stick 4K Max), a TV with that resolution, and compatible content, you may have found that when playing in streaming, an on-screen message says it is resized to 1080p. Some kind of sneaky warning that leads us to fix this problem in very few steps
Not use 1080p, usa 4K UHD
This is to tell the Fire TV (it must be a model that supports 4K UHD) to use 4K resolution as long as it is available and not 1080p. And to do it just navigate their menus a bit.
Indeed, it happened that when playing content, for example from Apple TV +, went from 3,840 x 2,160 pixels to a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. A warning appears on the screen and it seemed strange to me, because for example the menu appeared at the maximum resolution.
To avoid this problem, simply enter Fire TV settings through the “Setting”
In the “Setting” we are looking for the section “Screen and sound” and in the mosaic of options that we see, click on “Filter”.
Once inside we are left with the first option is the one that serves us. We entered “Video resolution” and we will see how by default it is enabled in “Automatique”.
If you have a compatible TV, the Fire TV can provide these 3,840 x 2,160 pixels
We fixed this by force the system to adopt the 3 840 x 2 160 pixels. For this we will mark one of the two lower options, depending on the compatibility of our TV. In my case, I marked 2160p at 60Hz.
At the moment, the Fire TV asks us if we want to make the change and after clicking “Confirm” we can go back to the 4K content we were going to play and check how it is now playing at its maximum resolution.
That way, if we have a TV that supports 4K and content in that resolution, the Fire TV Stick will still deliver the maximum available.
