As the apps are updated, they are refined and expand their range of options. This is the case with Telegram, which version after version introduced improvements while fixing any errors, and in version 8.3 it happened an interesting tool to improve confidentiality in groups.
Telegram 8.3 brought the possibility that group admins could decide whether files uploaded to these groups can be uploaded by their members, or even if screenshots can be taken to extract said information. A useful tool that we now teach you how to configure.
Protect files in Telegram groups
As we said, Telegram 8.3 incorporates a new option thanks to which we can protect the files of the groups that we manage. If we want, we can disable downloads of these files, which can only be viewed from the app as long as they remain downloaded, and which we will not be able to extract via screenshots either. A system that raises the level of security and allows “what happens in the group, stays in the group”.
Activating this option is much easier than it looks because we will only have to follow the following steps. We will go to the group for which we want to protect the downloaded files, click on the upper part of the window to access to information of that group, then click the pencil at the top to edit it.
We will then see that under the name, the possibility to change the profile picture and the description that we have “Group type”. This will be where you have to click, but we are not going to change the group type but to establish file protection. The option appears at the bottom with the name “Restrict recording of content”. Just activate the right switch and voila, the files we download in the group can no longer be downloaded and can only be viewed from the application.
This will prevent files from being downloaded, transferred or extractable via screenshots, which from this moment will always appear dyed black, protecting the confidentiality of the content. Let’s take it step by step to make the process much clearer.
- We open Telegram.
- We open the group whose files we want to protect.
- Click on the group name once inside to access its information.
- At the top, click on the pencil to edit the group.
- Click on ‘Group type’.
- We turn on the switch next to ‘Restrict content recording’.
- Click the button at the top right of the tab to confirm the privacy changes.
- We click again on the button at the top right of the tab to validate the modifications made to the group.
- Done, files protected. Protected Information.
