Design that sets trends again
Two years ago, Huawei hit the table with the Huawei P20, creating a family of mobile phones that, besides having great features, were not only beautiful, but different from what we've seen so far.
Huawei has fulfilled the dream: that other manufacturers are copying it
Apple, Google and Samsung are taking inspiration from Huawei's designs for their upcoming, exciting phones.
That's not an easy task, but you can certainly see that Huawei has devoted a lot of time and services to it. With the P30 Series this was maintained and improved, with new color and illuminated beauty. On the Huawei P40 Pro and Pro Plus the brand has decided to go ahead in many aspects.
First, Huawei changed the screen to give a curvature not only on the larger wings, but also on the smaller ones. This makes it especially comfortable on the hand, especially for swiping from the bottom, when we want to go to Start or turn on multitasking.
Ergonomics is one of the strong points of mobile. In addition, software encounters it with a new class of shortcuts from the right-hand side, when it performs an action and maintains pressure.
Also highlighted are two new colors, gold and matt silver. The backdrop is still glass but these new colors make the light shine and the background looks frozen, much like the OnePlus blue.
In this area, i The Island camera, something much bigger than previous models that unfortunately make the phone sit comfortably on the table, the same thing has happened to the OPPO Find X2 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
Both areas are interrelated a steel frame with a beautiful light voice that delivers amazing touches and, of course, nothing wrong. This is especially noticeable on the corners, where the frame is large, certainly protecting the screen from knocking and falling.
But that's not all good at this stage. In addition to reaching Samsungung or OPPO's heights, Huawei has had to provide proof that to make a handset with the best features, the weight of the cellphone should be incre ased. The Huawei P40 Pro weighs 203 grams
More power, but most of all better communication
This year Huawei has decided that three of its mobiles will use Kirin 990, the chip we saw on the Mate 30 Pro. This is not uncommon, and although it works better than previous years processors, we do not see a significant jump. The same thing happens with the 855 and the 865 Qualcomm.
The fact is that Huawei is far from its rivals when it comes to betting on large amounts of RAM and internal memory. The Huawei P40 Pro has 8GB and 256GB respectively. It is not a bad thing and we do not believe it needs better prices, but surprisingly, the company did not make the jump to 12 or 16 GB as made by Samsung.
But for this type of device it is very important to see that memory uses the latest technology available, and it is. RAM is the one LPDDR5 and internal memory uses technology UFS 3.1. The latter is much appreciated as the speed of data compression is high, which has confirmed it when installing large applications and backup.
Where we see that the obvious jump is communication. The Huawei P40 Pro has dual SIM slot compatible with eSIM technology. Of course, we won't use three cards at one time, but two of the three.
In addition, we deal with a mobile phone with 5G connectivity, as long as we live in one of the few places that integrate this model in Spain.
Yes, the second speaker is missing. This model has one at the bottom, and a cellphone of this price cannot work on such a thing.
About battery, we can't talk much yet as there were a few hours we spent with this mobile. Its 4200 mAh system promises to give us good independence, and fast charging, wired and wireless, is among the best in the market.
New enhancement screen, without being one of the best
Huawei is still bent do not suggest screen adjustment from their mobile phone. This is not a problem as we have better independence. The problem is that there are already several products, such as Sony, Samsung or OPPO, which show that it is possible to use 2K panels in the normal way, at least on the most expensive phones.
The Huawei P40 Pro screen looks beautiful, well-proportioned, using OLED technology that allows the use of a fingerprint sensor on the screen … but it's not among the best panels on the market.
The same is true of the degree of refreshment. This mobile has the ability to work, automatically 90 Hz, but we've seen how Samsung and OPPO make you jump at 120 Hz, this seems odd. Again, it's not necessarily a problem in itself, but it seems that Huawei is starting to decline in this regard.
The cameras have really improved
Last year Huawei made one of the best mobile car parts in the world. So much so that this Huawei P40 Pro is nothing more than an evolution that contains the P30 Pro. Make no mistake, there are enhancements, especially in the video, but that's not the same way we saw from the P20 Pro to the P30 Pro.
We were able to take some pictures and it felt very high quality. And not only that, but it seems that the authenticity of the colors in the pictures has improved dramatically. It shows the tones correctly, the shadows as they should and although we have yet to prove it, it gives the impression that the model has placed the batteries in reality rather than sharp or solution. And that's pretty cool.
At night it has also been enhanced, especially with the use of the 5x Optical zoom, which is now stable and shows that it uses the sensor in many cases, without any increase. Here a new RYYB pattern is introduced which has also been made by telephone.
But the biggest change seems to come in the videos and that is because the company has done on the P40 Pro what it learned from the Mate 30 Pro. The stability is excellent and we can even use zoom in real time, up to 15x.
And that's a general feeling. Huawei took all of the lessons learned in 2019 in the photos and videography section and put it here. And it shows that it's one of the best. The only thing is the excellent zoom, which is left for the P40 Pro Plus.
EMUI 10.1 and Android 10, excluding Google apps
How could it be otherwise, we tested P40 without using Google apps as this phone does. Our experience with this failure is reported in the video a few days ago as the P40 Lite also comes without these services.
Therefore, we have made use of AppGallery Huawei and those at Amazon stores, i AppStore. From there we downloaded Instagram or HearthStone.
We didn't need to use the App due, Huawei's other official app, but we installed it in case we needed it.
As for EMUI 10.1 issues, we found one very annoying, endless notification when we activated Do Not disturb mode, something that shared with OS OS 7.1 from OPPO and that I think was wrong.
It's yet to be proven, but it is promising
Huawei has shown that despite the problems caused by the software, it can create high-end cell phones. You've done it with Huawei Mate 30 Pro and done it again here. Personally, I think we have the perfect size and design.
The graphics category is also promising, and the autonomy, without expecting something as spectacularly disappointing as the P30 Pro, hopefully isn't at least compelling.
Soon we will bring you a comprehensive analysis where we will talk more about the camera, battery and you will see if these are cell phones to compensate you for the purchase. Of course, a company should reduce prices when it is launched to encourage potential buyers to rely on their brand of mobile instead of one of the competition.
