iPhone 16 will boost the Neural Engine for generative AI iOS 18

Siri

It’s a growing rumor: iOS 18 will boost Siri and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across the operating system. However, to be able to do this in a much more powerful way, Apple plans to introduce in its next chips (M4 for Mac and A18 for iPhone) a powerful and improved neural engine with a higher number of cores according to the latest rumor from the Economic Daily News.

But what does it mean to have an enhanced neural engine? Well, mainly improve device performance in AI and machine learning tasks

. As you know, there is a very strong rumor about the improvement that Siri and iOS 18 will incorporate in terms of generative AI capabilities and this should go hand in hand with this hardware improvement of the new Apple chips. The first, we will see it at WWDC in June, the second, we will have to wait until September with the presentation of the iPhone to be able to confirm it.

Taking this information from the iPhone, the new A18 will debut alongside the iPhone 16 this coming September and this rumor seems to indicate that AI capabilities could be exclusive to these models

since current models would not have this enhanced neural engine that AI would need to improve its performance.

The Neural Engine has been with us since the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X where it debuted with just two cores. and went through the XS and XR with an improvement to 8 cores and reached the iPhone 12 from which remained with 16 hearts

. On the Mac side, it has started with the M1 chips where it debuted directly with 16 cores and stayed that way with the exception of Mac Studio and Pro models which can equip up to 32 cores with the M1 Ultra or M2 Ultra chip.

We will be very attentive to everything that may come out of the iPhone 16 and more if it concerns a facelift of Siri with AI capabilities and everything that can also be integrated into iOS. A more than interesting year is ahead for Apple beyond the hardware launches also planned. Will this be the year of software and AI for those in Cupertino?
