Apple’s spring event will likely take place in about a month, and we expect Apple to launch its first new iPads in over a year. And based on the latest rumors, this could bring the first major design change to the iPad Pro in over six years.
According to 9to5Mac, the iPad Pro will get a serious reduction in thickness when the new model arrives. With the move to OLED, Apple would reduce the thickness of the device by around 20%, making it one of the thinnest devices Apple has ever made:
- iPad Pro 11-inch (2022): 247.6mm x 178.5mm x 5.9mm
- iPad Pro 11-inch (2024): 249.7mm x 177.5mm x 5.1mm
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2022): 280.6mm x 214.9mm x 6.4mm
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2024): 281.5mm x 215.5mm x 5.0mm
The site also confirms reports that Apple will launch a new 12.9-inch iPad Air with dimensions similar to the existing iPad Pro. This would make the iPad Air and iPad Pro lines identical in size but differentiated by features and specifications like the standard and Pro iPhones. The main differences between the lines will likely be processor (M2 vs M3), display technology (LED vs OLED), and biometrics (Touch ID vs Face ID). The iPad Pro will also likely have higher storage options, better cameras, and faster data transfers.
The new iPad Pro is also rumored to receive a new Magic Keyboard accessory with a redesigned aluminum body and larger trackpad.
Apple’s spring event is expected to take place next month and will likely include the new MacBook Air and Mac mini M3 as well as the new iPads (potentially a new iPad Air, iPad mini, and 11th generation iPad). Apple could also unveil the M3 Ultra chip for Mac Studio and Mac Pro as well as a new mid-cycle iPhone color.
