Google revealed Nearby Share, or Nearby Share, in 2020 as your own alternative to Apple AirDrop, to easily share files between Android devices. But recently Nearby Share has evolved, merging with Samsung’s Quick Share, and this tool for sending and receiving files will soon add an option to make it even faster and easier to send photos, videos or messages. any file to another device.
The company is working on adding support for QR codes in Quick Share, which will allow us to send files by just showing the code to the person with whom we want to share it, and have them scan it with their mobile camera, without doing anything else.
The biggest advantage of using a QR code will be greater speed when sharing files
Currently, to send files using Quick Share it is not only necessary to activate the Bluetooth connection of our device and location, but also to configure the Privacy settings: Do we want to send and receive files with everyone, just with our contacts, or just with our devices?
But also, when sending the files, the process is usually take a few seconds to search for compatible devices around us. If you want to send a batch of photos to a friend, your phone has to find them first, and that can take a while, especially if that person hasn’t previously set up and enabled their own Quick Share.
Now, the latest Google Play Services beta (version 24.20.13) has revealed that Quick Share will soon also allow create a QR code when sharing files, according to the discovery of @AssembleDebug and Android Authority, who revealed the first images of this new tool.
QR codes will save us precious seconds by providing a faster way to share files. The process is similar, except the final steps are required:
- We first select from our image library or our file application on our mobile the files that we are going to send
- Then we click on the Share button and select Quick share
- Finally, we select the new option: Share with anyone using a QR code
This will create the code and the person to whom we will send the files all you have to do is scan it using the camera of your mobile. Once the process is completed, you will receive the files on your device.
This feature, as we mentioned, is still in development, but in the near future it should reach all users of devices compatible with Quick Share, that is, most Android devices, since Quick Share is compatible from Android version 6. However, Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets can now share files using QR codes In Quick Share, this feature has been available in One UI for a long time.
