In January 2024, Google decided to “kill” Share with Nearby, transforming it into Quick Share, its new file sharing system between Android devices, but also with computers.
This is a system that Samsung has already used in its own Galaxy devices, so Google and the South Korean company They joined forces to have their own AirDropunified across all Android devices. Now Quick Share is even better and easier to use, having added the ability to share files using the mobile camera.
Quick Share is now better than ever. Sharing files is as easy as scanning a code
Google announced last December that it would soon implement the ability to use QR files to share files via Quick Share, further simplifying the process, especially when we want to send the files to more than one person.
Being able to share files via Quick Share using QR codes allows users to avoid changing mobile settings to send these files to the devices of people who are not in our contact book, and also allows us to share files with several people at the same time. According to Google, just ask people to scan the code using their camera to access the files.
Using the new Quick Share function is very simple, just follow these steps:

- We select the file(s) we want to share
- We press the “Share” button of the mobile and select Quick share
- Next we will see a new button called “Use QR code” among the options for sharing with nearby devices
- After pressing this button, the mobile will create a QR code which can be scanned by one or more people, without needing to be registered in the contact book of the user
- When you scan it, the system creates a quickshare.google link which automatically starts the transfer
The new version of Quick Share is now reach all Android users with the new Google Play Services updateversion 24.49.33. This is a rolling update, which means it will reach all users over the next few days and weeks.
