The Apple Watch looks great right out of the box, but you’ll want to add a few apps to really make it shine. That Apple can be “ported” is a real wonder, and the 6 Series is the best yet, but you’ll never know how useful it can be if you don’t broaden your horizons a bit.
When we think of the Apple Watch apps that we can’t live without, they’re at the top of the list. Some are free, some are not, but all are worth it.

AutoSleep
Apple eventually added sleep tracking to WatchOS 7, but it’s a bit lackluster. It only works during the specific hours designated for sleep mode and doesn’t give you much information about the quality of your sleep.
Fortunately, it’s not difficult to add better sleep tracking with an app like AutoSleep, Sleep Watch, Sleep ++, or Pillow. There are several sleep tracker apps to choose from, but most require a significant in-app purchase to put them to good use, or a subscription which can really come in handy.
This is one of the reasons we love AutoSleep. Not only does it work well and give you a lot of good data, it’s just a starting (and reasonable) price. There are no hidden updates in app purchases, no subscriptions, and no ads. Just three dollars to add quality automatic sleep tracking to your Apple Watch.

Carrot weather
There are plenty of great weather apps out there, many of which support Apple Watch, but Carrot Weather might be our favorite. It combines great weather forecast (with underground or dark sky weather data), lots of customizations and even achievements. The sarcastic and mean robotic voice helps make the time fun.
The Apple Watch stand is particularly robust, with several complications available and the ability to customize them in the app. You can even use several different complications with both watchOS 7 and widgets with iOS 14.
Carrot Weather was one of the first third-party apps to use Apple’s new Series 4 Watch Corner Complications, and also gives you a map on the Siri watch face.
The only downside is that the app costs 4.99 dollars and on top of that you have to subscribe to the Premium Club for 0.99 per month or 4.99 per year to receive notifications and background updates from Apple Watch.
The cost is to cover the increased API usage of your data sources for features like real-time rain warnings. And some features are locked behind even more expensive subscription levels.

1 Password
Apple has improved a lot when it comes to making Keychain and iCloud work alongside Safari and apps to manage passwords, but if you’re stepping out of the Apple ecosystem for something, you really should use a password manager. third-party password.
This is doubly true if you have family members who should use password managers but would like to share passwords for certain services (like Netflix, for example).
One of our absolute favorites is 1Password, which offers top-notch security and ease of use along with robust tools across multiple platforms.
On your Apple Watch, 1Password can quickly display passwords, credit card details, notes, and one-time passwords (for 2FA). With macOS Big Sur, you can even unlock 1Password with your Apple Watch on any Mac with a Secure Enclave chip (think: Mac with a T2 chip or newer M1-based Macs).
There’s a 30-day free trial, but then you’ll have to shell out 3 per month for an individual plan or 5 for a family plan. It’s worth it.
You can download 1Password at this link.
Small armies
There aren’t many games designed for Apple Watch. And for good reason, as few game designs lend themselves to very limited screen space and the interactions available in that form factor.
Tiny Armies is a good exception. It’s available for iPhone, but the extremely compact and straightforward design of this clever strategy game really shines on the Apple Watch. If you’re looking for a fun little distraction the next time you’re in line and don’t want to pull out your iPhone, try Tiny Armies.

PB: Lost phone alert
Don’t you want your Apple Watch to warn you when you drop your iPhone? It might trigger a notification when you leave Bluetooth range.
This is basically what the missing phone buddy alert does. It’s a bit more sophisticated than that: you can set a Bluetooth power threshold and set various limits (such as alarm strength or turning off the alarm when connected to home Wi-Fi).
But, in essence, this app asks you to pay $ 5 for a feature that we think Apple should already add to watchOS and iOS.
It’s worth it? If you are the type of person who accompanies your iPhone more than you would like, you don’t need an answer to this question, you are already in the App Store and spending your money there.

Things
Things is one of the most well-received task managers, and it’s easy to see why. It is attractive, simple, clear and easy to use. It does what any good task manager should do – it’s easy to jot down a new task, get things done today, and stay away the rest of the time. He’s an Apple Design Award winner, and it shows.
Things on the Apple Watch are great. Quickly add a task to organize later on your iPhone. Review today’s tasks, check off items as you go, or put them off with just a few clicks. It supports the Siri watch face, which is the perfect place to receive daily task reminders.
However, it is not cheap. At $ 9.99, it’s one of the more expensive iPhone apps of its kind. But a good task manager will save you time and help you get more done, without feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. It’s worth the price of a few cups of coffee.
Streaks
If you want to lose weight, eat healthier, learn a new skill, or create a new habit, the key to success is repetition. Going to the gym once a week isn’t going to change you, no matter how hard you work out. You will never learn to play guitar if you practice until your fingers bleed only once a month.
Streaks are an easy way to create personalized reminders to do something each day (you can track up to 12 daily tasks). It’ll remind you when it’s time to do your homework, and it will even automatically check off data-related tasks from the Health app.
The Apple Clock app gives you rich notifications, plenty of complications, and beautiful icons and colors to use for your personalized activities.

Citymapper
Citymapper is an absolutely amazing public transport app. It gives you bus and metro timetables, alerts you of service outages, helps you plan trips and more. It works by taking public data from dozens of transport agencies in the city. It’s won all kinds of App of the Year awards, and for good reason.
On Apple Watch, it’s even better. By glancing at your wrist, you can see where to go, which bus or train to take, and when it will arrive. It can be difficult to play with your phone in congested traffic, but a glance at your wrist can show you which stop to get off.
The downside of Citymapper is that, because it’s based on public transport data, it’s only available in a few dozen cities. This is perfect if you live or travel in a large metropolitan area, but it doesn’t help.

Spotify
An app like Spotify doesn’t need to be introduced. It’s arguably the world’s most popular music streaming service, and it’s increasingly become the place where people listen to their favorite podcasts.
It was always difficult to recommend Spotify to Apple Watch enthusiasts because it couldn’t stream music or podcasts on its own – you had to use your phone and just control playback from your watch.
Now, as long as you are a Spotify Premium user (12.99 per month, although there are plans and discounts), you can stream music and podcasts right from the clock without your iPhone having to proximity. Exactly what fitness enthusiasts need from an Apple Watch cell phone and love to run or walk without their iPhone.

Night sky
Night Sky is one of our favorite apps for iPhone and iPad. If you’ve ever looked up and asked “what star or planet is this?” then Night Sky is for you.
It also does a lot more. There are different AR modes, notifications to see the international space station flying, Siri shortcuts … you don’t have to be an astronomy fan to fall in love with this app.
You might not think that a star map on your watch is useful, but you are wrong. Simply raise your wrist to the sky and drag it to quickly find and identify objects in the sky.
When your watch is lowered, it becomes a sort of “celestial compass” that shows you the direction of things worth seeing. It’s almost magic.
