The Google Pixel 8 lacks secrets for the weekly installments: we already know in detail what its promising cameras will look like, the quality leap they will give on their screens and that it will have a kind of desktop mode à la Samsung DeX . Leaks continue to reveal its hardware and this time it’s down to the battery, precisely one of the few sections in our Google Pixel 7 Pro review that falls below nine. Also, Google has hit Pixel 8 battery and fast charging,
The reliable Android Authority source who leaked details about the Google Pixel 8 has again opened its mouth to give potential buyers little joy. AND I say “small” for a reason.
In the Android ecosystem, there is a kind of battle to see which phone has the fastest charge – a title currently held by the Realme GT Neo 5 with 240W – in which Google did not want to enter. In fact, while brands like OnePlus are already hovering around 100W or Samsung hits 45W in its S23 Ultra, the Google Pixel 7 Pro stayed at a relatively modest 23W and that’s referring to the Pro, since the Pixel 7 didn’t have simply “that” 20W fast charging.
An essential update
…and with the Google Pixel 8, those of Mountain View will not enter the top either: Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will increase their fast charging to 4W, i.e. they can be charged at a maximum of 24 and 27W respectively. A minimal update which, if it is confirmed, seems somewhat harsh.
But there will always be less changes in wireless charging, which in fact, according to the leak, remains without news. Or what amounts to the same, that The Pixel 7 had 12W wireless charging support and will continue to do so with the Pixel 8
If you were expecting a big change in the Pixel 8’s charges or batteries, this leak is a pitcher of cold water. Because even if the capacities of the batteries will increase, they will do so in a minimal way. Thus, the Google Pixel 8 will have a battery with a capacity of 4485 mAh instead of the previous 4270 mAh and the battery of the Pixel 8 Pro will increase to 4950 mAh against the 4926 mAh of the Pixel 7 Pro.
So while the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro slightly improve the battery and fast charging specs of their predecessors, expect a similar experience in terms of battery life and charging time.
