Surprise. There the first developer preview of Android 15 will arrive tomorrow and it’s not me who says it, it’s Mikhail Kulaha, a Google employee with over ten years of experience on Android. Of course, more than saying it, it slipped out accidentally.
The latest version of Android is currently Android 14, but it was predictable that Android 15 would appear at some point in February with its beta versions, first for developers. Now we practically have confirmation not only that it will be like this, but also that the first beta will arrive tomorrow
Android 15 Developer Preview 1, tomorrow
The downside of working on AOSP code is that the comments are visible to everyone and that’s how we discovered several new Android features in progress. The last error gave us the date of Android 15, which for now is Android V: February 15.
Hidden in thecode review comments of a haptic controller, a Google employee wonders if it is wise to wait for the launch of Android V (Android 15), since “its first Developer Preview is scheduled for February 15”. Oops.
Indeed, in recent years Google launched the Developer Preview in February, so we had to expect the least expected day to arrive. For once, there wasn’t really any leak about it, although in return we gradually got what could be considered the definitive leak.
As a Google worker, we have to hope that the date is firm, although it would not be the first time that Google has delayed or brought forward a launch, so we will have to remain attentive to changes. The normal thing will be that Android 15 develops little by little, with two developer previews and around five public betas which would culminate with the official launch in summer, August or September.
If you have a Google Pixel 5a or higher, make some room because tomorrow you might have a new version of Android ready to try. Now remember that Developer Previews are designed for developers and are usually pretty green, always without too many visible changes or with changes that aren’t completely functional.
