Surely this has happened to you at some point. You’re quietly at home napping, watching TV, spending time with your family, whatever, and the phone rings. You respond thinking it’s probably an ad trying to sell you something, but no. it’s nobody. So why are they calling? Well today we tell you.
These are usually failed business calls
A few days ago, a law came into force that prohibits unauthorized commercial calls. We have already told you that there are several ways to skip it by operators. But what if the call is not commercial? In these cases nothing is heard and after a few seconds they hang up. Nobody interacts with us even if we try to. The reason? It has to do with the standard systems of the call center business calls.
As you will have understood, when a salesperson calls us to sell us something, he has not personally chosen our number. You didn’t even dial it on your phone. They work with a system that random calls using a database
The problem is that this software does not call every time there is a free advertisement, but it does it per hour. This way you may contact us, there is no agent available so we don’t hear anything, and after a few seconds the system hangs up upon detecting that there is no agent to whom this call has been arranged.
One of the reasons why companies dedicated to this maintain this way of working is that it serves to verify that the numbers of the databases they manage are still active. If after a few attempts they never manage to find you, they will take you out of it because calling you costs them time and moneyand if they can’t sell you anything, it’s not profitable for them.
Be very careful with scams
Another less common but more dangerous reason is known as Wangiri, which in Japanese means “call and cut”. If you ever receive one or more missed calls from a foreign phone, chances are you have fallen victim to this practice. Scammers hope you will be curious and call backbut what you don’t know is that it’s a foreign special rate number, so they will charge you – and not a little – for every minute you spend on the line.
They usually do it from abroad because it is much more difficult to verify if it will cost us money to call this number or not. In USA, more or less everyone knows that 901 and 902 type phones are telephone booths, but no one knows their equivalent, for example in the UK. That’s what scammers play with, and that’s why It is important that you do not return the call in these cases
The best thing to do is to look up the number you were contacted from on the internet. You can also call your carrier and ask if it is a special rate phone. But never call back without being very sure who it is and if it is necessary to do so. Although we already predict that in most cases this is not the case. If it’s important, they’ll call you back.
As you can see, there are many reasons why you are getting those annoying calls in which no one speaks. The most common concerns advertisements, but it is not the only nor the most dangerous. It is important to be vigilant, to block the numbers from which you no longer wish to receive calls, and to report any attempted scam using this method to your operator. In this way you may get your money back if you fell for itand you will help so that the same thing does not happen to others.
