Some WhatsApp news is easier to understand than others. For example, we recently tested message editing, which isn’t really a science. Other novelties are a bit more confusing, such as the saved messages which have been in development for a while and have now started showing up for some users in their beta.
Saved WhatsApp messages allow us to save self-destruct messages in temporary threads, those who have configured the automatic sending of messages after a few days. Technically, they are quite similar to tracked messages.
Save important messages from burning
In WhatsApp, you can make any chat ephemeral after enabling temporary messages, which delete a message after it has passed. 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days since dispatch. Messages are deleted from chat without a trace, simply disappear ing, unlike deleting for all, which turns them into a message.
There will be exceptions, because WhatsApp will let us keep messages to prevent them from disappearing. The feature has been in development for almost a year now, but it looks like it’s not long since the app started notifying in chats that The function to keep temporary messages in chat is now available. Tapping on this text shows us a window showing how it works.
This window confirms what we already knew in a way: keeping messages prevents them from disappearing from a chat, any user can mark a message to be kept, although if the message is yours, you have the power to choose whether to keep it or not and you will also receive a notification about it. If you do not want a message from you to be kept, no other participant will be able to mark it as kept.
To keep a message you have to make a long press and tap the bookmark icon, which will only appear in chats that have auto-delete enabled. In a group, admins have the power to prevent the use or non-use of the message retention feature.
By saving a message, the chat will be maintained even if its expiration time has passed and you can also consult it from the section Saved messages, in the chat information. According to WhatsApp, the message retention feature is active in “some countries”, so it may still take time to reach everyone.
