iOS 18 promises “one of, if not the biggest, iOS updates in Apple history”!
Following the release of Q1 2024 financial results, Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed several concerns regarding the company’s next steps. One of the questions was about the iOS 18 update, which, as usual, will be presented at WWDC in the middle of the year.
In recent months, several reports have suggested that Starting with iOS 18, Apple will offer many new features driven by artificial intelligence and strengthen applications already based on this technology.
2024 is the year of AI on iOS
Cook said Apple was “I’m excited to share details of our ongoing work in this space later this year”. He thus confirmed rumors according to which iOS 18, which will be presented at WWDC in June, will have full artificial intelligence functions.
A few months ago, Mark Gurman said in his Power On newsletter that iOS 18 is considered internally “one of the most important, if not the most important, iOS updates in Apple history.” . A very entertaining WWDC 24 awaits us at the beginning of June.
During the earnings conference call, Tim Cook said:
Moving forward, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that shape our future. This includes AI, which we continue to devote a significant amount of time and effort to and are excited to share details of our ongoing work in this area later this year.
While waiting to know specific functions, Some of the new features we expect in iOS 18 are:
- Nail revolution in Siri thanks to artificial intelligence, which will significantly improve both information and interaction with the assistant.
- News in messages which will offer automatic responses based on artificial intelligence.
- Support for RCS, the messaging standard that replaces SMS, will arrive on the iPhone at the end of the year, so it is understood that it will be with iOS 18.
- Artificial intelligence will reach many system applications: Apple Music, Pages, Numbers and Keynote and even Xcode, the app developers use to create apps, will have AI features.
According to Tim Cook’s words, it is a fact that in 2024, the company with the bitten apple will finally respond to the most insistent critics of 2023which compared the lack of AI solution offerings to those of Microsoft or Google.
One more time, Apple will show that being first is not always the best thing.
