For many Spaniards, WhatsApp is the center of their digital life. It’s more than just a messaging application to contact your loved ones and acquaintances, it’s also a way to make purchases, to contact the technical service of the products you buy, or to follow your favorite football team on WhatsApp.
This is why it is understandable that we are so afraid of lose whatsapp chats, because if they are erased, it is possible to lose something more than our memories with the stroke of a pen; and this is also why many people depend on third party applications to make a backup of chats and transfer it to another mobile, for example, if we are going to change devices.
WhatsApp’s latest update finally fixes this problem, providing an easy and straightforward way to transfer chat history from one phone to another, as long as they’re using the same operating system (for example, between two Android phones).
Don’t Lose WhatsApp Chats
The novelty consists of a new process of transfer chats between two mobiles, which allows you to move all open chats from one device to another. As Mark Zuckerberg himself has shown on h is Facebook account, this is an extremely simple process, which involves using only the mobile camera.
The transfer process starts on the new mobile first. For some time it has been possible to start the WhatsApp session on another mobile without losing the connection with the current mobile; Once the session has started, we can start the transfer process, which implies that the new mobile will display a unique and exclusive QR code. All you have to do is use the old mobile camera to scan the WhatsApp code and accept the transfer; for this we must Go to Settings > Chats > Chat forwarding. Both devices must have the same WiFi connection, in addition to location enabled.
An important detail is that, with this method, chats are not shared with anyone; the information is transferred directly between the two mobiles, and the data is always encrypted. In this way, WhatsApp has solved the big obstacle it had, the fact that its chats are encrypted, and that even the company itself is not able to read them; the problem is that this also means it’s not as simple as backing up to WhatsApp servers and accessing it from another device. This is the reason why this novelty may have taken a little longer than it should.
