The Apple Vision Pro is coming on February 2, 2024. The pre-order gates open tomorrow. While everyone is waiting to see how the AR/VR glasses will perform in use, news keeps coming in.
There is speculation about a huge Apple Pencil and Disney also announces that it will finally show 3D films again Flatpanels HD.
3D is really making a comeback
It’s really true: 3D movies are coming back on the Apple Vision Pro. No double bottom, no restrictions. Disney+ will feature Avatar, Avengers and Star Wars with the third dimension, even in their own category.
The company said “dozens” of popular films will be available in 3D at launch. Additional titles will be announced later, Disney said.
High Frame Rate und Dolby Vision on top
The films will be available in MV-HEVC codec. That means: in 4K resolution and in Dolby Vision.
In addition, some content is also offered in HFR (High Frame Rate), for example Avatar: The Way of Water, which was already shot at more frames per second.
Some people are bothered by the soap opera effect when watching films in 48 FPS, but there are also reasons for this. You can find out more about this in the following article:
Special environment for a cinema feeling
As Disney announces, you will be able to watch the films in one of four “environments”.
- At the Disney+ Theater, inspired by the historic El Capitan theater in Hollywood
- On the “Scare Floor” of Pixar’s Monster AG
- In Avengers Tower with a view of Manhattan in the background
- In the cockpit of Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder with the double sunset of Tatooine
An additional special feature: Each environment will include animations and sounds as well as Easter eggs from the respective films or locations.
Although these environments would theoretically be possible on other devices (like the Meta Quest), Disney has not said if and when they will make them available there.
In short: 3D films from Disney and HFR are withheld from the Apple Vision Pro for the time being.
By the way, our author Maxe has already asked himself in the past why so many people celebrate 3D even though the effect makes the picture worse.
3D gets a second spring on the Apple Vision Pro. Disney makes many blockbusters available in the third dimension. Is that a reason for you to buy the glasses? Do you want 3D back on your TV?
