Because according to the audience figures that have now been published, the new adaptation of Tolkien’s world sets an impressive record. Like Amazon laut Variety announced, the first episodes of the Middle-earth series have already been received by 25 million viewers worldwide watched. With that, rings of power the most successful premiere of all time
on PrimeVideo. However, it is unclear how the series compares to other products from the streaming service, as Amazon has never published viewership figures before.

How did the number come about?
It is unknown which measurement method Amazon used to calculate the numbers. For example, in the official figures from competitor Netflix, every account that has been viewed for at least two minutes of the series or film is counted as a viewer. Even with Rings of Power, we cannot know whether 25 million viewers actually watched both episodes of the series to the end.
How successful are other series?
Comparing Amazon’s viewership to previous hits of 2022, the 25 million still remains impressive. For comparison: The series House of the Dragon, set in the world of Game of Thrones, has similar numbers for its first installment.
However, it was only viewed by 25 million accounts after nine days. The premiere of the second episode in the USA switched within a day only
