AMD has new and above all detailed Benchmark results for the new Radeon RX 6000 series aka Big Navi released. Accordingly, in terms of performance, the Radeon RX 6800 XT should be even closer to the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3090 than to the RTX 3080 – with traditional rasterization (without ray tracing).
Twitter users @ harukaze5719 has packed the numbers from AMD into clear diagrams, at the same time determined the average values and also presented them graphically:
RX 6900 XT faster than RTX 3090
In 4K resolution, the Radeon RX 6900 XT is – measured on ten games – 13.38 percent faster than the RTX 3080 Founders Edition. At the same time, it is 3.53 percent (3.87 percentage points) faster than the RTX 3090.
In QHD resolution (also called WQHD, 1440p), the new Radeon flagship is even 15.4 percent ahead of the RTX 3080 and 5.64 percent (6.16 percentage points) ahead of the RTX 3090.
RX 6800 XT closer to RTX 3090 than to RTX 3080
Perhaps even more exciting is the look at the Radeon RX 6800 XT. While it sits exactly between RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 in 4K resolution, it can keep both Geforces in check in QHD resolution.
For comparison: The reference design of the RX 6800 XT is said to cost 649 US dollars at AMD, for the RTX 3080 FE Nvidia is calling for 699 US dollars, for the RTX 3090 1499 US dollars.
Beware of the numbers: However, the benchmarks were preselected by AMD and AMD’s Smart Access Memory is used, with which a few percent additional performance should be generated. Experience has shown that independent tests usually relativize the manufacturer’s information somewhat.
Other factors also come into play when making a purchase decision: In terms of ray tracing performance, Nvidia should still have an advantage, at the same time, with DLSS, a sophisticated AI upscaler is available. You can read more about this in our GameStar Plus column.
RX 6800 clearly ahead of RTX 2080 Ti / RTX 3070
In addition to the RX 6900 XT and RX 6800 XT, AMD also has benchmarks for the RX 6800. At a price of 579 US dollars, it competes with the RTX 3070 (499 US dollars). The RTX 2080 Ti is used in the comparison, but in the GameStar test both models are on par – apart from the smaller video memory of the RTX 3070.
In 4K resolution, the RX 6800 is 10.76 percent behind the RTX 3080, but 15.15 percent (11.74 percentage points) ahead of the RTX 2080 Ti.
In QHD resolution, the RX 6800 can stalk up to 5.22 percent of the RTX 3080, while it outperforms the RTX 2080 Ti by 19.35 percent (15.37 percentage points). As mentioned earlier in the text, however, it is important to use the numbers with caution.
When will the new Radeons appear? The RX 6800 ($ 579) and RX 6800 XT ($ 649) will be released on November 18th, with the RX 6900 XT ($ 999) coming on December 8th.
