Sorry, My Hero Academia fans, but the end is nigh: the popular superhero manga has come to an end in just five chapters.
After a long wait, the official Japanese My Hero Academia Twitter account announced that the Weekly Shonen Jump manga will be reaching its final chapter on August 5. There are currently five chapters left in the manga series, which wraps up the final story with a short epilogue. I won’t spoil the ending for readers who only watch the anime, but it’s good to know that the manga doesn’t end abruptly and all the characters have time to reflect on their journeys. The final five chapters will bring the manga series to a total of 430 chapters, which is an impressively long manga, but thankfully not as long as One Piece.

Series creator Kohei Horikoshi said in a statement (via IGN ): “There are only five chapters left before the manga ends. Some people might be thinking, ‘Five more chapters?!’ and others might be thinking, ‘Only five more?!’ But I will do my best to make sure both sides can enjoy the last five chapters of Deku and the others. It’s been a bumpy road, but thanks to all the readers who have been reading along, I’ve been able to draw Deku and his friends for nearly 10 years. It’s been a dream. Thank you so much! Well, see you in Jump!”

The manga was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014, and has since spawned numerous spin-offs, merchandise, video games, and of course, an anime series and a few non-canon movies. But don’t worry, there’s still quite a bit of animation to come, as the seventh season is currently airing, and only 351 chapters have aired, so there’s still quite a bit of story that hasn’t been made into anime yet.
This isn’t the only manga set to end this year: Jujutsu Kaisen is also set to end this year, though creator Akutami-san has been taking a few weeks off due to illness, so the ending may stretch into 2025.
