STALKER 2 Preview and a selection of GSC World developer interviews (by the way, our own interview will be released later today, October 17th)! In one such interview with Windows Central, the developers took a deep dive into the Xbox Series S and talked about working on it to make them confident that any game can hit the console’s memory limits.
“Originally, we thought it might be impossible to bring S.T.A.L.K.E. 2 to Xbox Series S. We have such a big game, so many mechanics, so much stuff. It definitely felt like it was impossible to do. . But then we started optimizing, adding new features for streaming information. Unreal Engine provides a lot of capabilities for this, but for our game, we really have to squeeze every megabyte out of every system content, and now we do that.

“After this experience, I believe it is possible for any game to reach the memory limit of Xbox Series S. Yes, not every developer, not every studio has the opportunity or extra time to optimize Xbox Series S. We must Increasing our expertise in optimization also helps PC builds to perform even better. For modern games, our minimum PC requirements are quite low.
“On Xbox Series S, we’re stuck with 30 FPS. However, in many cases we’ve managed to hit 60 FPS, but it’s not as consistent as on Series X. But we want to provide a performance mode for Xbox Series S that reaches 60 FPS We think it’s possible.”
The topic of Xbox Series S has proven to be a thorny topic for some game developers to discuss, with the apparent limitations of the hardware daunting. For example, Dune Awakening’s CPO told us at Gamescom that making a Series S version “will be a challenge.” So this positive attitude is certainly refreshing. Even if it doesn’t run at 60FPS, cheaper consoles with Stalker will be a boon to many people.
