Super Earth’s Ministry of Truth has fantastic news as a major victory was achieved in Helldivers 2 this past weekend. The Operation Swift Disassembly
has led to the complete destruction of the Automaton faction. But what happens next after this impressive victory for democracy?
Helldivers completely wipe out machines
What happened? A carefully coordinated offensive against the Automaton faction ended with unprecedented success: Under the leadership of Game Master Joel, the players of Helldivers 2 achieved what many thought was impossible: the complete elimination of the Automatons.
Arrowhead, the development team behind Helldivers 2, proudly announced the success:
You did it, Helldivers. Operation Swift Disassembly was a success! With the bots eradicated and the bugs kept at bay, the galaxy is free again.
Many players are also celebrating the huge success on social media:

The operation, which took place on the bot-occupied planets of Maia, Durgen and Tibit, ended with the galaxy freed from the Automaton threat. But this strong performance raises an important question: What’s next after an entire enemy faction is removed from the game?
What’s next?
The newly created void offers plenty of room for speculation. The developers have remained silent so far, but the rumor mill is cooking.
Possibility #1: The machines will return
The victory over the Automatons may only be temporary: Their return seems inevitable, given the evidence of an as-yet-unknown Machine leader who has recently emerged illegal propaganda broadcasts
was spotted:

Possibility #2: Ancient aliens attack
But that’s not the only option: We’ve known since before release that sooner or later a third enemy faction will appear, which some players claim to have already spotted on the battlefields.
The Illuminates known from the predecessor are a highly developed species that have existed for hundreds of thousands of years and will sooner or later intervene in the battle for Super Earth.
Whether and when exactly the machines will return or the aliens will intervene in the conflict remains to be seen. Just like the first Helldivers, the sequel functions as an endless cycle of epic victories and crushing defeats.
In the first Helldivers the galactic war campaigns only lasted a month, in the sequel the first season runs for exactly two months – and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight as long as there are still bug planets that want to be liberated by you.
