Electronic Arts has published further details on Battlefield 2042 in an extensive question and answer session. Among other things, plans for a cross-play feature have been confirmed.
The upcoming shooter Battlefield 2042 will have cross-play functionality. Publisher EA confirmed this in a Battlefield briefing on the official website.
There it says: “One of the most frequent topics when you ask is cross-play. We can confirm that we want to integrate and test this function in Battlefield 2042. That is why we have decided to postpone the technical game test to late summer so that we can test the cross-play functionality. “
In the aforementioned technology test, “a few thousand” players should have access to test features and functions – including cross-play – in advance. Since the technology test is planned for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X | S platforms, these gamers will be able to play among themselves for the time being.
Since the function is still being worked on, the question naturally arises as to how things will continue after the technology test until the release of the full version. For the finished game, the PC, Xbox Series X | S and PS5 should then be thrown into a pool, whereby PC and console players can also deactivate joint gaming for known reasons (advantages for PC players in terms of control via mouse and keyboard). In addition, cross-play between Xbox One and PS4 should be made possible.
Cross-progression will also be an issue, i.e. cross-platform progress and trading. Unlocked achievements and purchases can be accessed across the selected platform. For example, those who have gambled on the PlayStation will also be able to transfer their progress to Xbox or PC.
