The developers of Battlefield 2042 are slowly gaining a little bit of ground with the community with patches and – so far only minor – changes and new content. The multiplayer shooter has been offering since yesterday smaller versions of the maps available for 64-player matches.
This affects the modes of conquest and breakthrough. You can select the smaller maps in the All-Out Warfare menu, as you can see in the screenshot:
However, the new modes are initially only for one limited time accessible. It can be assumed that the developers first want to test how the change will be received and how it will affect the number of players.
Smaller maps are well received by the players
Many players seem to enjoy the new 64-player modes, because the smaller cards and the reduction in the number of players seem to result in better performance. The mood can best be described as cautiously positive. Of course, as with the newly introduced Rush mode, the question arose as to whether the smaller cards could not remain permanently. By the way, you can read here why Rush is so popular and how long the mode will stay:

Is praised about Reddit especially the one already mentioned better performance
However, most of the comments also emphasize that with this and the first patches, Battlefield 2042 is far from the game it should be. The 64-player modes are seen as a temporary improvement, but should not replace major fixes and updates.
Many players also emphasize that they want to continue to play on 128-player maps in the future, but that urgent improvements in performance and map design are necessary here.
Lack of players can lead to controversy
Battlefield 2042 has not yet digested the catastrophic release, on the contrary. Most of the criticisms could not be addressed yet and on Steam the game is still suffering from persistent loss of players, as this graphic shows:
The new modes could result in the traditional 128-player cards being played even less. on Twitter Some users have already complained that they are now having difficulty finding games for 128 players. If the number of players does not recover, it is possible that Battlefield 2042 will have to choose between 64 and 128 player cards in order to keep at least one mode alive.
