Game news Before Breath of The Wild 2 no Zelda in 2022? The developers of Twilight Princess HD have their say on the subject
Breath of The Wild 2 won’t be released in 2022 in the absence of an official title, as Nintendo claimed, leaving fans unsatisfied. While a persistent rumor has suggested that gamers are entitled to a port of a previous opus to the Nintendo Switch, the studio responsible for Twilight Princess HD is quite poised to make one.
Twilight Princess and Wind Waker to the rescue
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Link’s return in 2022 with the release of Breath of the Wild 2
The rumor, supported by Jeff Grubb, had recently gained momentum. If we were expecting to see these ports for the series’ 35th anniversary last year, fans finally got the right to do so Skyward Sword HD. A rather disappointing release given the expectations. So we’re hoping for a Wind Waker and Twilight Princess compilation release later this year, but once again, fans’ hopes risk being dashed. The developers of Twilight Princess HD, the WiiU port of the game originally released for Wii, talked about this possible compilation in a recent interview.
Just the Zelda and 2022?
It is the CEO of the Tantalus Media studio Tom Crago, at the origin of the HD port of Twilight Princess and who also worked on Skyward Sword HD, who wanted to clarify the situation. For their part, the Tantalus teams have not been contacted by Nintendo about a possible port of a Zelda title.
We’d love to do that (port Twilight Princess to Switch) but it wasn’t a priority for Nintendo – at least not in the talks we’ve had (…). The relationship with our partners works in such a way that we take every opportunity to work on their games. There is a constant dialogue between our two companies. Time often flies between titles and a few ideas are occasionally thrown up, but in the case of Skyward Sword, time ticked by and we received an email that said “Would you be interested in working on Skyward Sword for the Switch?” ‘ to which we of course replied, ‘Yes, let’s do it’. After that, we talked to Nintendo about what we wanted the port to look like, and then we got to work. It ended up being quite similar to how Twilight Princess HD came to be.
Unless Tom Crago is trying to mislead us, there are no Twilight Princess or other Zelda ports planned for Tantalus. We can possibly hope that Nintendo has entrusted this task to another studio, But the relationship between the two companies and these recent revelations are enough to cool the excitement of the most impatient fans.
