What looks like a listing for Mass Effect N7 Japanese prints detailing Mass Effect 5 is incorrect, leading many to believe that Commander Shepard will return in the game.
In the listing, a synopsis of the yet-to-be-named next Mass Effect reads: “The show continues… Shepard’s final mission may have ended the Reaper menace, but at a high price, including on Earth itself. While Shepard and the survivors were left to pick up the slack, fans had no idea what would happen next.
According to project director Michael GambleThe listings on the BioWare Gear Store have since been altered and were written by people who run the store and are “unfamiliar with the game”.
So, that seems to end some hopes of Shepard’s return, but you never know. Only BioWare knows for sure, but the store product in question is an image shown last November, and it’s thought the game takes place a few years into the future, meaning Shepard may have joined the invisible chorus long ago.
Little is known about Mass Effect 5, and while BioWare hasn’t said much since announcing it in the works in November 2020, the studio said at the time that it was “looking forward” to the future.
Recently, BioWare reiterated that the next game in the series is in early development, and it will be “a while before it can be talked about in more detail” before the game can be talked about in more detail.
