German engineering should meet massive US design: With the Explorer, Ford is introducing a new, all-electric SUV that could hit a nerve – also in terms of price.

There is currently no shortage of new electric cars. Volkswagen has just presented the VW ID.2 at a price of less than 25,000 dollars with great public interest. A few days later Ford follows suit. Here, too, Volksw agen has a finger in the pie, because the new Explorer is based on VW’s MEB platform. Ford and Volkswagen are also doing things together in other vehicle categories, such as the upcoming Ranger and Amarok.

The name Ford Explorer has a good reputation, especially in the USA. Now this should radiate to Europe and Germany. It will be the first vehicle to roll off the assembly line in Cologne, at the Cologne EV Center.
The carmaker is still keeping the exact technical data under lock and key, but is revealing a few key data. So there should be a centrally arranged and yet movable touchscreen in the interior, which is above the class average with a diagonal of 14.6 inches. There is also talk of numerous available assistance systems.

Even with the seats up, the five-seater offers a luggage compartment volume of 450 liters. Where the switch console is usually located in cars with combustion engines, Ford has installed a huge storage compartment. With a volume of 17 liters, the “MegaConsole” is almost as large as a 15-inch laptop.
There is no information on the range and the motorization yet. Ford announces that the electric car has fast charging options. The battery can be fully charged to 80 percent within 25 minutes.
