Microsoft intends to add Activision Blizzard’s library of games to Game Pass, specifically call-of-duty, Diabloand Overwatch.
This is according to an open letter written by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer discussing the Activision Blizzard acquisition.
“Subscription services like Game Pass make gaming more affordable and help players from around the world find their next favorite game,” Spencer said. “Game Pass enables developers to bring more games to more players, not less.
“We intend to make Activision Blizzard’s library of beloved games – including Overwatch, Diablo, and Call of Duty – available on Game Pass and grow the communities of these games. By providing players with more Multi-value, we hope to continue to grow Game Pass, extending its appeal to mobile phones and any connected device.”
Spencer reiterated that Microsoft doesn’t plan to isolate Call of Duty games from other platforms.
In the letter, he also reiterated that Microsoft is “committed to making the same version of Call of Duty available on PlayStation on the same day the game is released elsewhere.”
“We will continue to enable people to play across platforms and devices. We know players will benefit from this approach, as we’ve done it with Minecraft, which continues to be available on multiple platforms, and since Mojang joined Microsoft has expanded to more platforms in 2014,” he said.
“As we expand our game storefront on new devices and platforms, we will ensure that we do so in a way that protects developers’ ability to choose how their games are distributed.
Microsoft announced its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in January, which is expected to close by the end of Microsoft’s current fiscal year, which ends on June 30, 2023.
