As promised, Infinity Ward’s first look at the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The reveal consists of just a single-player campaign trailer showing off some gameplay footage, along with the usual mix of in-engine cutscenes.
The trailer offers a full modern version of the classic Task Force 141 look that fans of the original Modern Warfare series should be familiar with. However, if you’re expecting it to start straight from the first game, the setup can be surprising.
The trailer doesn’t offer any information about the campaign missions, but we do know that the sequel follows Task Force 141 and new characters following the events of Modern Warfare. In the game, Task Force 141 has changed to neutralize global security threats across the Americas, Asia and Europe.
The campaign will include offshore sieges, underwater combat, raids from 30,000 feet and stealth missions.
After the campaign, you can play tactical co-op mode, which will hone your team-building skills for the multiplayer component.
Tomorrow, we’ll have another screening of Modern Warfare 2 during the two-hour live show at Summer Game Fest. This will also focus on the campaign, but it will be a longer mission play rather than a funky trailer.
Now that the trailer is live, a number of Call of Duty creators joined the press to share their impressions of the longer demo, as well as early details on Infinity Ward’s vision for multiplayer. However, you’ll have to wait a bit longer for actual multiplayer footage.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming to PC (back to Steam!), PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on October 28th. Those who pre-order the game will get early access to the planned open beta.
