The hot season is usually a pretty slow time for the gaming world. The summer of this year is quite generous in content and here are 5 games we picked.
An epic adventure already known to some
If you loved The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, you might be wondering where the epic story of Link, Zelda, Ganon, the Master Sword, and the rest came from. All of this is explained in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, an episode released for Wii in 2011 that returns in a revamped HD version this summer. Controls adapted to the program, sometimes classic, sometimes with motion gaming from Joy-Con, in order to transcribe the movements previously made with the Wiimote. On the graphics side, the game has a little HD facelift, an improved viewing distance and … that’s about it. Small novelty, an amiibo from Zelda and her Celestial, which was sold for around $ 25, enables the use of the fast travel function, a function of the original game that was very popular at the time. This new version of the game will be released on July 16th for Nintendo Switch.
A rural and mystical walk
How about some cool indie play vibe on your vacation schedule? This is what the colorful and cute Kena: Bridge of Spirits offers you. The game comes from a very small studio that originally worked for the animation world. When you see the game in action you immediately understand that it is. The title was announced during the PlayStation 5 Showcase 2020 and will also be available on PlayStation 4 and PC. The release is dated August 24, 2021 and will also be available in cloud gaming on GeForce Now.
How about a little administration?
If you’re looking for a game for your long summer evenings that you’re passionate about enjoying alone or with others, Humankind will likely strike hard when it hits PC on August 17th. The goal of the game? Rule the world, similar to all strategy games, 4Xs. Little peculiarity of the title, it is the opposite of its greatest competitor Civilization: you have to stack cultures in an intelligent way in order to forge your own nation over the centuries. Behind this game is the French studio Amplitude, to whom we owe Endless Space 2, one of the best software of its kind. The various betas were going well and all the lights are on for the game’s release, which we remember will take place on August 17th.
Stuck in a time warp
Another of the most anticipated games in the independent arena is 12 Minutes. The concept is strong: an apartment, a couple at dinner and after 3 minutes of play an intruder inevitably comes and stops you. After 12 minutes it starts again: dinner, the 3 minutes, the arrest. No matter what you do, some things are repetitive so the game will be based on them. This is a highly anticipated point’n click that is achieved by very few people and that prom ises to have a fairly long lifespan. Dubbing is provided by James McAvoy (Professor X in the X-Men reboots), Daisy Ridley (Rey in the Star Wars postlogy), and Willem Dafoe (the green goblin in Spider-Man films 1, 2, and 3) which promises a lot in terms of immersion. The exciting adventure is expected on August 19th on Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC.
Psychonauts 2
Last game in our column, and last but not least: Psychonauts 2. The story is about discoverers of consciousness who have to infiltrate somewhat strange spirits. The universe is crazy, the game is not super nice, especially if you leave Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, but it promises a really big crazy atmosphere. Tim Schafer and his studio Double Fine Productions, known for games like Brütal Legend and of course the first psychonauts, are behind the development of the game, and are considered true bosses of humor. So we should have a fresh, weird, well-made and quite original title. August 25th judgment on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
The choice was difficult to highlight just 5 games. We don’t forget the few Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus !, Death’s Door, Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series, Tribes of Midgard, The Ascent, Lemnis Gate, Naraka: Bladepoint, No More Heroes 3 or New world. Enough to promise a busy summer.
