according to Crisis Core Reunited Producer, the game can’t just be a cloud version, as fans of Final Fantasy VII Remake have “high expectations”.
Yes, admittedly, this is an odd comment, but producer Yoshinori Kitase seems to be referring to the original PSP version of the game. “Games can be difficult to play if the original hardware for the game is no longer manufactured. Crisis Core is an example of this,” Kitase explained in an interview on the PlayStation Blog (thanks to GamesRadar).
“Of course, it’s possible to play the game at its original specifications using cloud technology, but the fact is that fans of Final Fantasy VII Remake have higher expectations for graphics. So, I think it’s definitely worth remastering the game for current-gen platforms to meet those expectations.”
Kitase seems to be suggesting that the only other option is for players to play the game through the cloud version, but it’s entirely possible to play other PSP ports without doing so. It’s also odd, as producer Mariko Sato noted that the team “initially thought about porting the graphics unchanged, but when we first brought the original to the big screen, we worried about a lot of things.”
Sato went on to point out that they ultimately decided to update the graphics to try and achieve a similar look to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which for the most part appears to be a success.
Overall, the game seems to be going well, and the iGamesNews got some hands-on time in September. While the graphics are impressive, Alex Donaldson did note that it does become more apparent in some animations as a PSP game, though overall it’s a good-looking remake.
