It was the highlight of this year’s EA Play Live: the announcement of the remake of Dead Space. The anticipation is likely to get even bigger in many places, because a prominent face of the industry is leading the development work.
The original announcement of the remake of Dead Space on the part of EA was initially kept relatively brief, but more and more info bits are now being made public. Now it has become public that developer Motive Studios was able to win a well-known face from Ubisoft as a project manager.
Several ex-Ubisoft employees now belong to the Canadian developer of Dead Space, with two names particularly sticking out. First of all, that would be Eric Baptizat, who previously worked for Ubisoft for 16 years and is now Game Director of Dead Space. Who that is? Baptizat is none other than the director of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, the current offshoot of the long-standing hit series. Before that, he also worked on the other franchise titles Unity, Black Flag and Origins. He has been a member of Motives since April of this year.
The second major addition to Ubisoft is Roman Campos-Oriola, who will be the creative director of Dead Space. He was previously responsible for For Honor at Ubisoft and led the team there for several years. He switched to motifs in 2020.
The actual development team includes other former Ubisoft employees who worked on Assassin’s Creed and Watch_Dogs. Some names from earlier BioWare times also appear at the Dead Space maker. This includes the former level designer of Mass Effect, Gary Stewart.
The remake of Dead Space does not have a release date yet, but is in the works for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
