There is increasing evidence that Bungie is working on a Destiny mobile offshoot. After a series of job postings in the spring, patent applications have now surfaced that corroborate this.
Is a Destiny Mobile com ing anytime soon? The signs of this are increasing. Already in the last year, job postings have been seen that indicate this, followed by the search for a “Senior Mobile Platforms Engineer”, which indicates the development of their own mobile engine.
Now became six patent applications released that Bungie submitted back in March, further confirming the suspicions. All of these Bungie patents are about some sort of virtual controller, or controller, that players can use on a touchscreen or mobile device. One of the patents mentions Destiny and Destiny 2 with the patented virtual controller technology.
Functions such as drag & swipe (possibly for the inventory), auto-aiming or automatic running are also mentioned directly or indirectly. So there is a good chance that Bungie will at least consider the possibility of a mobile implementation. As part of the takeover by Sony, Bungie had already emphasized that it would continue to expand the Destiny brand. Even a series or film implementation could become an issue now that Bungie has hired a designer for the animated series The Arcane.
