Scott Pilgrim Director Edgar Wright appears to be in talks to direct a remake of the ’60s cult classic BarbarellaSydney Sweeney has become a star.
Wright hasn’t been a director in a while, with his last film being 2021’s “Last Night in Soho.” To be fair, he’s probably busy overseeing last year’s excellent Scott Pilgrim Takeoff , and he’s currently working on a remake of Running Man starring Glen Powell. Interestingly, Wright also appears to be gearing up for another remake with Powell’s “Anyone But You” co-star Sweeney. The “Euphoria” actor has been linked to a “Barbarella” remake for some time, and according to Deadline , Wright is currently in talks to direct the film.

A remake of “Barbarella” may still be a long way off as Wright is currently remaking “Running Man” and Sweeney himself is busy. However, Deadline also reports that Jane Goldman and Honey Roth are also in talks to write a script for the project. Goldman has written a number of big-name projects like “X-Men: First Class,” “Kick-Ass” and “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” so she seemed like the right addition for a movie like “Barbara.”
The original “Barbarella” was released in 1968 and was adapted from the French comic series of the same name. Jane Fonda in “Grace and Frankie” plays the eponymous character, a space adventurer tasked by the President of Earth to rescue Durand Durand from a distant planetary system (yes, I understand this is Ci Tang). Although it has now become a cult classic, strangely the film didn’t do particularly well at the time, except in the UK. Now it’s been reevaluated, but a remake might give it a chance at new life.
