Due to the ongoing pandemic, E3 2021 will not be held in the usual format, but exclusively digitally. It is now becoming apparent which publishers and manufacturers are taking part – and which are not.
E3 will take place again in 2021, but only in digital form, like last year. The important US trade fair had already crumbled a bit and had to forego the participation of various well-known manufacturers in the industry. This trend continues with this year’s digital edition.
Like the industry magazine GI.biz reported that Sony, among others, will not participate in the digital E3 2021; the big new PS5 blockbusters from the manufacturer itself will therefore not be on display. Other well-known developers and publishers who stay away from E3 are Activision Blizzard, Bandai Namco, Electronic Arts, SEGA and Square Enix. As a result, an illustrious group does not participate in E3, although the surprise is certainly no longer too big for companies like EA. EA had already relied on the in-house event EA Play in a similar time to E3 in recent years.
As a side note, the E3 2021 is far from degenerating because with Microsoft and Nintendo, the two other very large console manufacturers besides Sony are still at the start. In addition, Capcom, Konami, Take-Two, Bethesda and Ubisoft are honored. Warner and Koch Media have also confirmed their participation. So, despite everything, there will be a hail of new announcements again.
The digital E3 2021 will be held from June 12th to 15th. During the online show, developers will present their latest games in more detail or even announce them for the first time.
