After the end of the NCAA series, EA also wants to bring college football back as a video game – and soon there could finally be solid information about this, after the project had become quite quiet since the original announcement.
Every year a new part of the Madden NFL football series appears. In the past, football fans were also blessed with a college offshoot as part of the NCAA series. Due to legal difficulties and disputes over the associated licenses, this series was put on hold several years ago, but EA now wants to make a comeback with EA Sports College Football.
Publisher Electronic Arts had already announced some time ago that there would be another college football video game in the future, but since then things have become suspiciously quiet about the project. But apparently that is about to change!
The college football semifinals recently took place and produced Michigan and Washington as winners, who will now meet in the big NCAA College Football Playoff National Championship Game. EA apparently wants to finally announce solid information about EA Sports College Football on the occasion of this college final game; At least that’s what Brandon Marcello from the American college football site now reports 247Sports.
EA is planning an “official update” on the game on the sidelines of the college finals. However, it is still unclear whether there will be a specific release date for the new football title. At least fresh screenshots will probably be published that provide insight into what the game could potentially look like.
If EA actually uses the CFP National Championship stage, then it wouldn’t be unusual, as they had already done the same regularly in the NCAA series back in the day. In this respect, the finale on January 8th would certainly be the appropriate stage to finally nail things down when it comes to the new game.
The previous NCAA series came to an end with NCAA Football 14 after there were controversial discussions about whether and to what extent EA had to financially compensate the college players. In an update on the new edition, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in the summer of 2023 that the gameplay was already making good progress and that the differences from NFL football could also be well reflected. Regarding the licensing issue, he emphasized that they were still working on it, but that most of the important schools had already been licensed back then.
