Little has been heard of the new fable since it was announced. However, a small detail has now leaked in the context of a job advertisement and that concerns the technology.
As is known, the new fable is developed by Playground Games and attentive readers know that said studio also has the Forza Horizon series under its wing. As has now been shown, Fable will apparently run on the same engine as the racing game series. A job posting for the position of software engineer revealed th is detail:
“Do you want to have a major impact on 3 AAA titles in development across 2 beloved Xbox franchises? ForzaTech is the engine, tools, and pipelines that drive both the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series of games. In addition to adding new features like raytracing to support the next console generation, we are also enriching the toolset to support an open-world action RPG – Fable.”
It is not uncommon for engines to be used across the board, for example EA uses the FrostByte engine for a number of titles. But an engine for a role-playing game that was actually designed for a racing game? That could be interesting. The engine definitely has the advantage of displaying extensive game worlds fluently, as we know from Forza Horizon.
