OK, so, as you know, by now, in 2024, we Fallout fans have it really hard when modders and companies do what we love about this series. It’s definitely not like we have the Fallout TV series, things like Fallout 76, and the recent release of Fallout: London, all of which allow us to do Fallout things.
Well, if you still have time for more Fallout games, I have good news for you. The modding team behind Fallout: Shelter 13, which is dedicated to remastering the first Fallout game as a full conversion mod for Fallout 4, has just released the demo that we previously told you all to keep an eye out for when summer rolls around.

To play the demo, you’ll need to head to Nexus Mods, where you’ll find it, named exactly as you’d expect, “Fallout Vault 13 – Demo.” The team says it’s being released “as an early access preview to gather feedback from players.”
“In this demo,” the modder continues, “you’ll be able to explore the full version of The Inyo, the first of five open-world areas that will be included in the full version of the mod. You’ll be able to embark on a classic Fallout journey, revisiting several locations from the original game (Vault 13, Vault 15, Shady Sands, Khan Base), and explore everywhere in between.”
There are a few issues in the demo that will be addressed in the full version, the biggest being that due to time constraints there is no voice acting in the demo, only “placeholder speech that can be skipped”. Beyond that, you’ll need to follow the advice provided to avoid your character “disappearing from view” when you change their body in the character creator, and the skill system in the demo had to be streamlined due to a bug, meaning “your skills won’t automatically adjust when your special stats change”.

To play the demo, you need Fallout 4 and all of its major DLCs (Game of the Year Edition is also available). As with Fallout: London, your Fallout 4 game must be downgraded to pre-Next-Gen version 1.10.163, which you can do using the Easy Fallout 4 Downgrade Utility or the Fallout 4 Downgrade Utility.
“You should also delete any Creation Club content in your Data folder if present,” the team said, adding, “The only other requirement is the Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE). A copy of Fallout 1 is not required.”
