Final Fantasy XVI, released last summer, will soon be updated with fresh content. The expansion “The Rising Tide” now has a release date.
At the start of the second day of PAX East 2024, the development team behind Final Fantasy XVI announced the second expansion for the RPG epic. This is called “The Rising Tide” and is scheduled to be released next month.
The corresponding panel at PAX East offered a first look at “The Rising Tide”; the add-on will be available on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Then the new realm called Mysidia awaits you, named after the magical kingdoms of Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy IV. Mysidia will be located in the northern territories, but further details are still pending.
Thematically, the expansion’s story begins with the reading of a mysterious letter requesting help to save the “Dominant of Leviathen the Lost” aka “Eikon of Water”. Clive and his companions subsequently meet a new character named Shula, who helps Clive in the battle.
The add-on with all its new content will cost you just under 20 dollars/euro as a single purchase in the PlayStation Store. In addition, buyers of the Expansion Pass will of course receive “The Rising Tide” at no additional cost. This package also included the first DLC called “Echoes of the Fallen”.
In addition to the add-on, there will be a free update to game version 1.30. This brings adjustments to the combat system, which bring customization options for controller layouts and more. You can also try out the battle mode called “Kairos,” which is inspired by dungeons like “Palace of the Dead” from Final Fantasy XIV.
