At this Summer Game Fest, FromSoftware showcased Armored Core 6: Rubicon FireUnfortunately, this is all behind closed doors, but the developer has released a short video of the construction that the media and the press have seen behind the scenes.
The video has now gone viral, and it looks like a cross between the Armored Core and Souls games.
The video above is courtesy of Ratatoskr, who “found it on a Japanese website and claimed it as my own.” It’s just over four minutes long, but it’s action-heavy.
The main thing to note here is that while we can’t see the HUD, it’s clear that the Armored Core’s classic soft lock has been restored. It appears to work as you’d expect, enemies in the frame are soft-locked so following missiles can hit them.
But there also seems to be a more Soul-like hard lock to hold the camera in place. This can be seen in the boss fight, which itself is reminiscent of the soul’s spectacle and enemy design, even though it’s actually a machine.
Melee also plays a big role here, and when enemies take a certain amount of damage, they’ll stagger, allowing them to take significant damage. The level design, though, is the most impressive element on display here.
Players can choose a variety of paths, depending on the mech’s agility and flight specifications. Flying isn’t free, so if you build a heavier mech it will be better suited for short jumps and ground combat.
Speaking of builds, the character menu looks simpler than in previous entries, which should make it easier for players to figure out their core stats at a glance.
Armored Core 6: Rubicon’s Fire will be available on PC, PS4, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on August 25.
