There have been rumors for a long time about a battle royale offshoot of the successful action franchise Halo, but a corresponding spin-off has apparently been discontinued in the meantime. At least that’s what an insider who has been very reliable in the past reports.
Rumors about a battle royale spin-off within the Halo series have persisted for a long time in the past, but that could now apparently be over. According to a new report, development work on such a title has now been stopped.
In any case, this information was shared by an insider who has been very reliable in the past and who is particularly well connected in Microsoft circles. This refers to Shpeshal_Nick, who addresses the topic in XboxEra Podcast – and there is usually always very reliable information and rumors from the Xbox cosmos.
According to his own statement, Shpeshal_Nick recently received a message that a battle royale game in the Halo universe had been discontinued. The development studio Certain Affinity worked on this; Internally the title is said to have had the working name “Project Tatanka”.
The insider’s statement that the game had been canceled in the meantime was subsequently underlined by Jon Clarke aka _Sikamikanico_, who was also given the relevant details.
If one assumes that the sources are right – especially regarding reliability in the past – then the Halo Battle Royale game, which has never been formally announced to date, will no longer be announced or released. This is despite the fact that the title has apparently been in the works since at least 2020. Following the classic battle royale formula, around 100 games should have competed against each other in larger battles.
It fits that Certain Affinity announced in 2022 that it would deepen its relationship with 343 Industries – and that is, after all, the developer of the main Halo games, most recently Halo Infinite. It is not known whether and to what extent this connection between the developer and the franchise owner still exists.
