The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: Henry Cavill goes on a Nazi hunt in the World War II action film
Argylle failed to impress either critics or the box office. But the next action film with Henry Cavill is already in the starting blocks: The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare von Regisseur Guy Ritchie will be in theaters on April 19, 2024.
The inspiration for James Bond is being made into a film
And here is an interesting connection to James Bond: The film is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by author Damien Lewis. It’s about a British special forces unit that operated during the Second World War. This unit specialized in sabotage and espionage behind enemy lines and is considered the forerunner of the SAS.
The Special Operations Executive (SOE) was founded on the orders of Winston Churchill and because of its dishonorable tactics The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
designated. A part of the SOE was, among others, Ian Fleming – the author of the 007 novels.
His own work under the SOE is said to have inspired Fleming, among other things, to write his James Bond stories. This is specifically the case with the British soldier Gus March-Phillipps, who is played by Henry Cavill in the film. The 40-year-old actor reveals this in conversation with Jimmy Kimmel:
Ian Fleming was a member of this Special Operations Executive. He wrote James Bond and was obviously inspired by Gus March-Phillipps, who I was [im Film] games. I am aware that there was of course more involved, including other personalities.
But as I understand it, my character Gus March-Phillipps has also written real-life spy stories based on his personal adventures. However, he died in World War II and was never able to continue writing these books. Had he survived, he might even have beaten Ian Fleming to it. Who knows?

Henry Cavill almost became Bond long ago
In The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Henry Cavill doesn’t play James Bond, but at least he plays a character based on a real personality who, among other things, inspired Ian Fleming to create the character. It is currently unknown whether Henry Cavill still has a chance of landing the role of 007.
The actor may already be too old for this, because the producers in charge want a new actor who will stay at least as long as Daniel Craig Bond – i.e. 15 years. The 33-year-old is still the current favorite Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
In fact, Henry Cavill was in the running for the role of 007 in Casino Royale in 2006. Of course nothing came of it, but according to director Martin Campbell, Cavill would have one excellent bond
delivered.
