As League of Legends enters its 12th season and rushes into 2022, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent published a blog post titled “Calling the Shot: The Next Five Years of Riot Games.”In the aforementioned blog post, he laid out future plans for the company while addressing Company recently reached settlement with current and former women working in the studio.
At the beginning of the post, Nicolo revealed five main goals that the crew at Riot Games will strive to achieve over the next five years. These goals include:
- Winning Our Genres: Keeping Their Position as Genre Leaders
- “Unleash your fans” through games and events
- Fostering creativity and innovation in Riot
- Expand development studio globally
- Reinventing the viewing experience of eSports events.
Taking it a step further, Nicolo sets out some of the changes underway, setting them to “1) redesign the way we work, 2) continue to develop our culture to focus on our goals, 3) acknowledge our past and start A new chapter 4) rewards people at Riot for sharing in Riot’s success, and 5) ensures everyone at Riot is comfortable with where we’re headed and committed to helping make it happen.”
Among the explanations for these improvement points, the second and third seem to refer directly to Riot’s past events and reports of sexism (some of which Nicolo himself was taxed at Nicolo). Nicolo wrote: “As the world and society become more divided, and companies around the world struggle to maintain their identities and foster healthy collaborations, we think it’s more important to refocus Rioters on our mission and the company’s raison d’être. It’s more important than ever.”
“We ask Rioters to commit to a Riot where everyone feels supported. Ideas get fruitful feedback, Rioters ask tough questions in a way that promotes healthy conversations, we all learn and grow from different perspectives, and we don’t Unapologetically and relentlessly focused on the player.”
The third point directly deals with reconciliation and establishes a way that Riot’s previous issues are acknowledged and dealt with as the company tries to move forward. “To be clear, we’re not asking anyone to forget this chapter and move on. Rather, the lessons we’ve learned together over the past few years will be a key part of Riot Games’ origin story. As our ‘denewb’ direction and lessons As part of that, we’re going to continue to teach something that we’re going to use to always position ourselves on the right things for Rioters to make Riot the best place to work.”
The article goes on to establish Riot’s goal of becoming one of the highest-paid studios in the gaming industry, and expands their “Line Dodge” program, which previously allowed employees to leave within six months of joining, with a partial salary to go out. on the way. This expansion will enable any employee to use the queue dodge system for a limited time.
For now, this announcement certainly sets a high bar for Riot for years to come. Whether they can achieve the goals set out in this article, especially those involving employee well-being, will surely be watched closely by the industry for the foreseeable future.
