Update, 03. Februar: In our current survey of your operating system, there is a clear winner. This is all the more true when you compare the results with our last survey from November 2022.
Even then, Windows 10 was clearly ahead with almost two-thirds, while Windows 11 only came in at just under a third – and that hasn’t changed to this day. So the new operating system from Microsoft isn’t really making any headway. Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 7 together now only account for around three percent.
These are not representative surveys and the participants are not identical. The results are interesting nonetheless.
The current values coincide with the Hardware survey on Steam in January
Windows 11 was released in October 2021, after Microsoft had been saying for a long time that there would be no new version after Windows 10. You can rightly ask yourself whether you shouldn’t wait for Windows 12 to switch to Windows 12.
A meme about it is currently causing a lot of discussion on Reddit, the corresponding post has meanwhile reached over 1,800 comments. We take this as an opportunity to ask you which operating system you are currently using or whether you have already switched to Windows 11?
Do players need Windows 11?
Even about 16 months after the release of Windows 11, it is still the case that players can get along very well with Windows 10.
According to Microsoft, the DirectStorage interface for games with particularly short loading times and other potential innovations is only optimally used under Windows 11. So far, however, there are almost no games with it anyway and Microsoft has not yet explained in more detail what disadvantages there are exactly under Windows 10. We assume that they will mostly be small.
You can find out more about DirectStorage in our technology check for the first PC game with the function. More specifically, it is Forspoken:

I’ve never experienced that in any open world
The Support for Windows 10 runs until October 14, 2025. Microsoft has already stopped selling Windows 10 on its own website, corresponding links lead to the Windows 11 offer.
Officially, there is no information about a possible Windows 12. However, the announcement of Windows 11 came more or less out of nowhere at the time. However, it was about six years after the release of Windows 10 – so if you really want to wait for Windows 12, you should still need some patience.
Which option did you choose in the poll? And if you haven’t switched to Windows 11 yet, why is that and are you planning to switch in the future? Let us know in the comments!
