The march of the machine is imminent. But the new setting for Magic: The Gathering brings a lot more than a few new cards. Here you will find all the information bundled together and get an exclusive first glimpse of a map!
All Magic: The Gathering players are already rubbing their hands: On April 21, 2023, the new set March of the Machine will finally be released. This brings some fresh mechanics to the trading card classic and tells its own story that fits seamlessly into the existing universe.
We have compiled all the important functions and information about the set for you to give you an overview. But before we get into the details, there is a special treat: We can exclusively present you a map from March of the Machine!
It’s about the Doomskar warrior. The creature is of the Human Warrior genus and uses the new Assistance mechanic. It also inflicts trample damage. Each time he attacks a player or battle, you may look at cards from your library equal to the damage dealt. You can then take a creature or land card in your hand, which you must reveal. Put the rest of the cards back on the bottom of your deck in random order.
Here you can still admire the artwork of the Doomskar warrior:
Now, as promised, to all the other innovations that March of the Machine brings with it. In terms of story, the set tells of Attack of the Phyrexians to the multiverse. The offensive is led by Elesh Norn. His troops were able to successfully invade the Mirrodin plain and use a particularly powerful secret weapon with the world breaker, the invasion tree. As the first fresh mechanic, March brings the machine Butcher with them, who even got their own card type. These are transformative and double-sided. Like creatures, spells, and other non-instant spells, their slaughter casts during the main phase when the stack is empty. They enter the space with defense tokens equal to the value on the card, the goal is always to attack them. If your battle is defeated, its effect will trigger and you may cast the reverse from exile at no additional mana cost.
With the mechanics assistance
The keyword action Incubate on the other hand, creates special double-sided tokens. These belong to the Food and Treasure and Artifact tokens. The incubation instruction tells you how many tokens you need to place on the stone. As long as their face is facing up, they have little effect on the game. However, if a Phyrexian artifact creature transforms, they help keep it alive.
Commander decks should see the changes to Planechase. With Chaos erupts the system was revised insofar as you can also use chaos abilities without using the world cube.
So, March of the Machine brings a ton of fresh features and cards to the world of Magic: The Gathering. Below are a few more cards from the set, including battles and those that use other fresh mechanics.
