With The Witcher games and especially The Witcher 3, the Polish developers at CD Projekt have really achieved an extraordinary feat. The book-based games have helped the franchise grow and even launched a Netflix series. But what if you just tired of the constant monster slaughter Has?
Fortunately, there are modders: The Witcher – Masquerade is a mod for the first The Witcher from 2007 and turns the action game into one Detective adventure à la L.A. Noire
Here you can also find out the circumstances and the background of the plot, with pretty artwork in the style of the games:
What is Masquerade all about?
Don't be fooled by the graphics: The story of the detective adventure takes place after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, probably the best known and most played offshoot of the series. The place of action is Wyzima, the capital of Temeria, which was conquered in the third part by the Nilfgaard Empire.
The story starting point summarized: When a caravan arrives at a tranquil place, prosperity waves. Wealthy traders with rare goods can be found, but apparently there is a murderer among them. As Geralt of Riva, you have to investigate the mysterious murders and find out the culprit.
Extensively designed: The plot is completely set to music, but in Polish. But don't worry: English subtitles are also included. The mod is said to keep you entertained for around seven to eight hours and provides 14 different missions, which are split into main and secondary tasks. So you can see, we have no easy mod for fun here, there were real professionals at work!
The gameplay focus is of course on detective work:
The mod is available to everyone for freewho owns the now dirt cheap first part of the witcher saga. You can easily download them via platforms such as ModDB or NexusMods. If you've got a taste for it now – the internet is full of useful and fun Witcher mods! In The Witcher 3, for example, you can practice your sword skills through tougher opponents or build up an army of wolves.
