Baldur’s Gate 3 won Game of the Year at the 27th annual DICE Awards, adding the final trophy to Larian’s stunning 2023 launch. Additionally, the game won the Best Role-Playing Game Award as well as the Outstanding Story Achievement Award.
The DICE Awards, held at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, are the latest event in the last major awards ceremony of the previous year and are highly regarded by game developers. It awards a variety of important awards to the biggest games of the past year, including genre championships and awards for excellence in specific areas (game design, music composition, etc.).
Baldur’s Gate 3 won a total of five awards, including Game of the Year, but it wasn’t actually the game that won the most praise. That title went to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which had a disappointing performance at the Game Awards in December and picked up six DICE awards. It’s a nice return for a game that has previously received rave reviews from critics and the public but not from major award shows.
Of course, if we put aside Baldur’s Gate 3 and Spider-Man, there are other notable highlights. “Diablo 4” successfully won the Online Game of the Year award, while “Cocoon” won the Outstanding Achievement Award for Independent Games. Alan Wake 2 will step out of the darkness of Aria Resort and Casino and bring light to its new Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction award.

Plus, believe it or not, Tears of the Kingdom ended up winning an award. The game felt a bit miserable during the 2023 awards season, but it won the Adventure Game of the Year award, which I can safely say was well-deserved. In addition, “Street Fighter 6” also won the Fighting Game of the Year Award. Ladd.
