Game news Netflix: This video game is currently one of Steam’s bestsellers… and you can play it for free!
Sometimes we browse online video game stores looking for a title that can keep us entertained for a few hours… and forget that the same title might be in the Netflix catalog with a little luck. Well, we’re not talking about the latest flagship production, but about more modest titles that are nonetheless very successful, like Terra Nile. For him, the success on Steam does not let up and it is still selling very well after three weeks. However, what you may not know is that it is included with your Netflix subscription! This kills two birds with one stone: You discover a planning game that is as original as it is well thought out and save money.
Netflix, new video game misfit?
For some time now, Netflix has not limited itself to an entertainment experience limited to movies, series, documentaries and reality TV. No, Netflix is becoming more and more about video games, and month after month we’re feeling the push in that direction. Nevertheless, in August 2022 we were able to discover at first glance unflattering statistics that teach us this only 1% of users have downloaded one of the video games from the catalogue. Just one point, it may seem ridiculous but it should be remembered that this represents just over 2.3 million users because Netflix currently claims a total of 232.5 million subscribers! Like, the numbers… Meager. Nonetheless, the SVOD giant has a card to play in this area and stocks its section with catchy titles : Twelve Minutes, Unknown Soldiers: Brothers in Arms, Reigns: Three Kingdoms, Into the Breach, Spiritfarer, Oxenfree, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, Moonlighter, Lucky Luna, … Towards the end of March, a new title has burst into the catalogue
Terra Nile, a breath of fresh air in management games
After you give us a Run’n’Gun who spun at top speed and didn’t skimp on explosions when developing the game BroForce, the creators of Free Lives wanted freedom… and serenity. No more misfiring guns and hello flowers that add color to nature. Wandering around Steam for the past few days, we had a chance to cross the name of Terra Nile at the top of the Valve platform’s best-selling basket. Granted, it’s closer to the top 20 than it is to the podium right now, but we’ve seen it make the top 10 since its inception.. Noticing this, we quickly recalled Netflix’s announcement that a new title would be available to subscribers as part of the Games offering throughout the month of March. In the end, Terra Nile launched simultaneously on the SVOD platform and on PC. So of course we wanted to see how it looked, and all we want now is for Netflix to offer us more nuggets of this nature. A small download later and we took our first steps on this amazing one city builder I wonder what it has more than other management games. In the end we got our answer clearly as he has more than one argument in his favour!
If you’re going to tackle a management game, don’t be afraid. In recent years, the competition has been fierce and full of original and offbeat proposals. Can we still reinvent the wheel by developing another city builder? Not special, but we can breathe interest ing ideas into it, as Terra Nile does brilliantly, which is more nature farmer
Saving ecosystems and giving back to those areas what belongs to those areas
If you are not used to it, management games can always impress. But no fear, Terra Nile will not let you go in nature – or at least what is left of it – without offering to personalize your gaming experience. Optionally you have four modes : three already preset and one that you customize by choosing different options. Once that’s done, you can attack into the hardwood! Armed with your notebook, your scientific knowledge and your beliefs, You land on one of four wasteland environments. From the moment you step foot on the ground, you must restore this abandoned ecosystem to make it a potential haven of natural and ecological peace.
Don’t expect to help Mother Nature reclaim her rights on a desert island, however, using the same techniques and eco-tech as you would on a river valley. Yes, it’s a bit more complex, but it quickly becomes crystal clear. As a reminder, the basic premise of your mission couldn’t be clearer: you land in the middle of barren land to be restored. For this you need to build a lot of structures — Only one resource needs to be managed for greater accessibility — and go step by step : build a wind turbine to generate energy, build an air purifier to treat the soil, install irrigation systems to green the land surfaces, restore water flow in certain places, dig new waterways, vary the materials (rocks, sand, coral) … In a cascade of actions, you help nature re-establish itself in the landscape, even if this is only the first step.
Beyond this very simple rule, which consists in recreating each environment – procedurally generated in each game -, Terra Nil takes you through different objectives. And that’s not too bad as it helps to frame the player and allows them to easily assimilate each concept. This also provides an opportunity to add a little more complexity to the whole thing to be sufficient stimulate this search for green without making it boring. Now that your map is visibly filling up, this is what you need to do bring biodiversity
And that’s it ? As you can imagine, the developers of Free Lives didn’t invite you to save the planet only to end up leaving all your tech gear lying around! Now that everything is built and everything is in place, including biomes and animals, You have to recycle everything using the waterways and a very special device that requires a final touch of ingenuity. All this recovery is also important as it will be used to build you a plane… and get you to the closest environment to rescue them! At the time of throttling you have the ultimate opportunity to take a few minutes to appreciate your creation. Even if it deviates from the gameplay, the visual aspect is still of great importance, be it to observe how nature reclaims its rights, the animals that make it its new playground, or the many sketches in your notebook that are full of fascinating explanations and instructive diagrams. Also, keep in mind that during your ecological journey Terra Nile accompanies you with soft and sober immersive music that plunges you into a soothing bubble of gameplay. Here’s a game that, in addition to its gorgeous hand-painted graphics, is good for the ears… All the while hoping that the underlying ecological message gets through and doesn’t get passed from one to the other!
Incidentally, Netflix is not only expanding its program catalogue! Increasingly, video games are among the topics that the SVOD platform is watching very closely, going so far as to give Free Lives games the opportunity to reach large audiences. With its catchy ludo pedagogical concept, it’s easy to fall for the pleasure of saving all these ecosystems, even though the management game isn’t our favorite genre and the ergonomics of mobile media are quite different in terms of playability. . A bit of a mystery around the edges without it taking away the kale – nature teaches us that sometimes it’s wiser to start from scratch than fight it – Terra Nile is a nice surprise that it would be crazy to fade to let into a corner of the Netflix catalogue. By the way, remember that the title is also available on PC.
