The messenger WhatsApp can be operated intuitively, but from time to time the symbols used in the app cause a question mark over the heads of many fans. One such case is the “ghost” that has recently appeared next to some stickers that are sent to you.
If you press it, you can see directly what it’s all about. The “ghost” will take you to your avatar sticker set. If you have not yet created a WhatsApp avatar, you will be prompted to do so.
Avatar is a new feature introduced by Messenger in December 2022. This allows you to create a virtual image of yourself. This can not only act as a profile picture, but WhatsApp also uses it to create a set of stickers that you can use to express feelings in Messenger.
If a contact sends you a sticker from their avatar set, this is symbolized by the “ghost” next to it. Apparently, WhatsApp wants to encourage you to create an avatar and respond to the sticker with a sticker. Messenger is also currently promoting its avatars on Twitter – with a humorous tweet.
Recently, a bookmark sign on WhatsApp caused confusion because it has a different meaning in Messenger than in the browser.
