Battlefield is changing a lot right now. This is not only felt by long-time fans, EA itself also officially announced that you want to create a Battlefield universethat combines different games. According to EA, they are to be developed by different studios – and the next battlefield is supposed to be a hero shooter.
At least that’s what the well-known insider Tom Henderson claims, who so far has mostly been spot on with his forecasts. We summarize the current rumors for you.
New Battlefield as Hero Shooter?
According to Henderson, the controversial specialists of Battlefield 2042 are only a first step. In the next part everything should revolve around the heroes with special abilities – as is usual in a hero shooter. From the beginning, Battlefield 2042 was intended as a stepping stone:

Interestingly, it was only a few days ago that Vince Zampella took over the helm of the entire Battlefield franchise. The Respawn founder was previously responsible for Titanfall and Apex Legends, among other things – a more classic shooter that resulted in a free hero shooter. In this context, Henderson’s statements seem even more credible.
However, he warns himself that his information will anyway viewed with healthy skepticism should be. Basically, EA’s plans can still change in the future – so we’ll have to wait a while until there is official information.
Hero shooters have been in trend since around 2016. At that time, Overwatch started a new big hype around the genre. Titles like Battleborn, Apex Legends, Valorant and Paladins followed. Some classic multiplayer and tactical shooter brands such as Quake Champions or Rainbow Six: Siege were increasingly moving towards hero shooters.
