NFTs common to multiple games? Sony’s crazy project

PlayStation wants to create NFTs that can be used in different games and on multiple consoles. A bold project.

NFT, here are three letters enough to ignite the internet, especially when it comes to the video game sphere. It seems inevitable: non-fungible tokens will be used in games by many well-known publishers and developers in the coming years. To tell the truth, it has already started, notably by Ubisoft, which has had to backtrack quickly due to player rumble. In particular, Square Enix just unveiled a new project called Symbiogenesis NFT. The latter is described as “a new form of NFT-based entertainment where 10,000 collectible artworks find real utility in-game”. PlayStation

would not be surpassed and would love to go further by offering NFTs common to multiple games.

Same NFT usable in different games? Sony’s surprising idea

Sony has just filed a patent that is surprising to say the least. The idea of the Japanese company would be to offer “in game” an NFT (which could be a skin or a weapon, for example) to be used on different platforms. Sony

even aims to make the same NFT available in multiple games! Another scenario mentioned in the patent: Defeat a boss to get special gear for multiple games. These NFTs, i.e. objects that exist in a single copy, could obviously be resold. It is currently difficult to imagine how such a system could be set up. Cross-platform, why not, but NFTs common to different titles, this seems particularly daring.

Will PlayStation break its teeth like many market players?

Apparently, PlayStation has many studios that could facilitate building such a system. But from then on, Kratos’ ax should soon be able to be used as an NFT horizon with Aloy… The NFTs could only affect minor elements so everything fits together properly and doesn’t create inconsistencies. Especially since, like many publishers before him, Sony will have to deal with gamers’ distrust of NFT technology. However, remember that filing a patent does not necessarily mean that the idea mentioned will be realized. case follows.
